Travelers passing through Soccsksargen now have a fresh landmark to visit with the opening of the region’s very first Tourist Rest Area (TRA) in Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat. Strategically located within the Sultan Kudarat Economic Zone along the National Highway in Barangay EJC Montilla, the facility is designed to serve as a convenient stopover for those journeying between Soccsksargen and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
The Department of Tourism (DOT) said the TRA is expected to strengthen Tacurong City and Sultan Kudarat’s tourism circuits, which feature must-see attractions like the Baras Bird Sanctuary, La Palmera Mountain Ridge, and the iconic provincial capitol.
Comfort, Culture, and Coffee
DOT Secretary Christina Frasco highlighted the significance of TRAs as “vital infrastructure for regional tourism growth and economic development.” She noted that the new facility does more than provide a safe and modern resting space—it also reflects local culture and identity.
A standout element of the Tacurong TRA is the Coffee Experience, a program that celebrates Sultan Kudarat’s distinction as the country’s top coffee producer. Travelers can enjoy freshly brewed local coffee while appreciating the province’s strong agricultural heritage. To mark its opening, the TRA is offering free coffee during its first month of operations, ensuring that every stop feels welcoming and memorable.
Boosting Regional Tourism
Beyond convenience, the TRA is envisioned as a catalyst for economic growth. By making travel easier and more enjoyable, the facility is expected to encourage longer stays, draw more visitors to nearby attractions, and support small businesses in the area.
Officials also hope that the project will deepen community participation in tourism, allowing residents to showcase local products and culture to a wider audience. With this new facility, Sultan Kudarat positions itself not only as a gateway between regions but also as a destination in its own right.
