Mindanao’s artistic community is making a powerful statement with “The First Philippine Avant-Garde Davao 2025: The World Becomes Uncomfortable.” This groundbreaking exhibit, which opened on February 16, 2025, at the Foyer/The Patio Galleries in La Herencia, Davao City, brings together over 60 artists from across the region. The show runs until March 2, 2025, celebrating National Arts Month with a collective display of talent that challenges the boundaries of conventional art.

Art Addressing the World’s Urgent Issues

The exhibit, inspired by the theme "Avant-Garde," goes beyond traditional art forms, addressing pressing global issues that demand attention. The works on display span various mediums, including prints, paintings, drawings, collage, montage, and assemblage. Each piece serves as a reflection of the artists’ personal perspectives on social, environmental, and political challenges. The exhibit captures the discomfort of the world’s current state, offering a raw and unfiltered look at the struggles we face. It is a call to action and reflection through creative expression.

Uniting Voices for Change

The exhibit also features a diverse group of artists, from established figures to emerging voices, each contributing their unique take on the "Avant-Garde" theme. Through their work, they unite in challenging societal norms and questioning the status quo. The diverse range of perspectives amplifies the urgency of confronting uncomfortable truths, whether related to social injustice, climate change, or inequality. As a collective, these artists use their craft to inspire dialogue and provoke thought, encouraging viewers to engage with the world in a new and meaningful way.
