Maguindanao del Norte is set to strengthen its peace and security framework with the construction of a modern Police Provincial Headquarters, following a high-level planning meeting held on March 2, 2026. The initiative represents a significant step in improving institutional capacity and operational readiness in the province.
Maguindanao del Norte Police Provincial Director Colonel George Bagundol Jr. convened with top officials from the Ministry of the Interior and Local Government (MILG) – BARMM, including Interior Affairs Service (IAS) Director II Atty. Marvin Mokamad and Engr. Abibazar W. Sali, Chief of the Project Management and Development Division (PMDD). The group finalized plans for the new facility, which will be located in Barangay Crossing Simuay. The project has an approved funding of P30 million from the 2026 General Appropriations Act (GAA) of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
Cultural Design and Modern Policing
According to IAS Director II Mokamad, the headquarters will be equipped with modern facilities to enhance both administrative and operational functions of the provincial police force.
“In a distinctive design feature, the building will incorporate cultural elements of the Bangsamoro people to reflect the identity, history, and rich heritage of the province,” Mokamad highlighted.
The facility’s design integrates Bangsamoro cultural motifs, aiming not only to create a functional workspace but also to promote community pride, inclusivity, and respect for local heritage. This approach reinforces the connection between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve.
Colonel Bagundol Jr. expressed gratitude for the Bangsamoro Government’s continued support in modernizing the police sector.
“A modern headquarters with a design that respects and showcases our culture will serve as an inspiration for a more professional police service,” he stated, adding, “It will also further strengthen the bond and trust between the police and the community we serve.”
The new headquarters reflects a shared commitment between the Bangsamoro Government and police leadership to build resilient institutions that can address evolving security challenges. The project aligns with the governance thrust of BARMM Chief Minister and concurrent MILG Minister Abdulraof “Sammy Gambar” A. Macacua—“Para sa Mas Matatag na Gobyerno, Pamayanan, at Seguridad”—emphasizing stronger governance, empowered communities, and lasting peace in the region.
Enhancing Local Peace and Development
Preparations for the facility also included discussions with LtCol. Glemen Legada, head of the Philippine Army’s 33rd Infantry Battalion, who recommended closer civilian-police-military collaboration to maintain security in the province. Governor Tucao Mastura welcomed the suggestion, noting that a stable and peaceful environment is essential for socioeconomic growth.
A day prior, Col. Bagundol Jr. expressed support for the MILG’s plan, praising the design for reflecting the unique culture and history of the Bangsamoro region. Currently, Maguindanao del Norte operates from a temporary provincial police office, as the original facility of the undivided province remains in Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao del Sur.
The establishment of a modern, culturally integrated police headquarters is expected to enhance public safety, boost trust between authorities and residents, and create a secure environment that encourages both economic activity and community development.
