The new terminal building at Tacloban Airport is expected to open by 2026, with the goal of meeting international standards by 2028.

After the Regional Development Council (RDC) stepped up its regular monitoring and started holding problem-solving sessions, the building of the project's three phases is already underway, according to Meylene Rosales, Regional Director of the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev).

In 2026, the terminal building will open for domestic travel.

Nearly complete phases

With PHP761.91 million in work done, phase 1 of the project–which includes the construction of the new passenger terminal building–is almost finished.

The second phase is expected to be finished in early 2026 with a budget of PHP1.05 billion. Roofing and architectural construction are also part of its ongoing projects.

The terminal and other airport amenities will be finished in phase 3, which is expected to cost PHP1.5 billion.

The Department of Transportation provides funding for the first two stages.

International gateway

With 24 daily flights between Manila and Cebu, the Tacloban Airport is among the busiest in the nation, with 1.69 million passengers in 2024.

The airport is the primary entry point to Eastern Visayas from Manila and Cebu.
