The Siquijor Island Power Corporation (SIPCOR) has begun implementing key corrective measures to address the ongoing power supply challenges affecting the province.

In an official update released Monday, June 9, SIPCOR announced that it has completed corrective maintenance on one of its service units.

“Corrective maintenance for one of its service units has been completed as of today, Monday, June 9, resulting in an increase of 7,550 kW (kilowatt) to the total operating capacity of the plant,” the company stated.

A second unit is currently undergoing evaluation and assessment for corrective maintenance and is expected to be fully operational by midweek. In the meantime, SIPCOR has rented an additional generator set (genset) to help cover the supply shortfall, allowing for the gradual restoration of power within the week.

The latest developments come in the wake of the Provincial Government of Siquijor’s declaration of a state of calamity on Wednesday, June 4, 2025. The declaration was prompted by an escalating island-wide power crisis, marked by frequent rotational brownouts that have severely affected public services, disrupted local businesses, and impacted daily life.

According to SIPCOR, the province’s current power deficit is driven by rising demand due to increased economic activity and population growth. As Siquijor continues to gain recognition as a growing tourist destination, the need for a stable and reliable power supply has become even more critical. SIPCOR said it is doubling its efforts to meet the island’s increasing energy demands, both for residents and the tourism sector.

SIPCOR assured residents that its technical teams are working tirelessly to address the issue. “Rest assured that we are exerting all our efforts to restore full power in the province as swiftly as possible. This matter is our top priority, and we remain fully committed to ensuring the delivery of a steady and reliable power supply in all our served areas,” the company said.
