Iloilo City is expanding its support for learners with the launch of “Edu-Go: Read. Learn. Grow,” a comprehensive education initiative covering children from early childhood through Grade 12.
Launched Wednesday, the program brings together government agencies, schools, families, communities and other partners to provide learning assistance based on the needs of students.
Mayor Raisa Treñas said the initiative is designed as a long-term effort that goes beyond daycare and provides support throughout a learner’s educational journey.
Seven Programs, One Education Goal
Edu-Go has seven components addressing different learning needs. Edu-Go Sugod focuses on early childhood development, while Edu-Go Upod supports learners with disabilities and those requiring additional assistance.
Edu-Go Basa focuses on reading, numeracy and comprehension, while Edu-Go Balik provides opportunities for out-of-school youth and adults seeking a second chance at education. Edu-Go Level-Up covers skills development, Edu-Go Pamilya strengthens family and community involvement, and Edu-Go Talaan tracks learners’ needs and progress.
The city will initially focus on Edu-Go Sugod, particularly the training and performance assessment of daycare teachers.
Starting Early for Stronger Learning
Edu-Go Sugod includes Edu Liit for children below 3 years old and their parents or guardians, Pre-Kindergarten 1 for children aged 3 years and 11 months, and Pre-Kindergarten 2 for those aged 4 years and 11 months.
Iloilo City has 201 child development centers serving around 13,000 enrollees.
Treñas said the city chose to begin with daycare because early childhood is where foundational learning begins, including developing a love for reading.
The city also launched Project SABAT, a partnership with the West Visayas State University College of Education’s Division of Special Needs Education. It aims to train child development teachers in supporting children with special needs and strengthen collaboration among families, communities and other stakeholders to make inclusive education services more accessible.
