Free Cancer Treatment Through New Partnership
Caloocan City Mayor Dave Gonzalo Malapitan announced that the city government has begun offering free chemotherapy services to residents diagnosed with cancer. The program was made possible through a partnership between the local government and the Prime Treatment Group (PTG).
According to Acting City Health Department chief Fernando Santos, cancer patients of all ages may avail themselves of free chemotherapy infusion treatment through the initiative. The service is being provided at the PTG Caloocan Chemotherapy Center located on the second floor of Ziti Center Caloocan.
The facility operates from Monday to Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., giving patients more opportunities to receive treatment within the city rather than seeking care elsewhere.
In addition to chemotherapy services, the City Health Department said medicines provided to patients are intended to last for 30 days and may be distributed monthly, depending on the patient's needs and eligibility.
Expanded Support for Diabetes Patients
The city government has also widened its healthcare assistance by making diabetes maintenance medicines available free of charge at all city health centers.
Residents who require ongoing medication for diabetes can obtain their maintenance supplies through these facilities. Officials added that insulin may also be provided free of charge whenever necessary.
Beyond medicines and specialized treatment, the local government is continuing its partnership with PhilHealth to provide free medical consultations at all city health centers. The initiative aims to encourage residents to seek preventive care and medical advice before health conditions become more serious.
For many families, the cost of cancer treatment and long-term diabetes management can place significant pressure on household finances. By providing free chemotherapy sessions, maintenance medicines, insulin, and consultations, the program could help improve access to healthcare while reducing out-of-pocket expenses for residents. The initiative also supports broader efforts to strengthen community health services and make essential medical care more accessible to vulnerable Filipinos.
