A new hospital designed to expand access to specialized healthcare in Southern Luzon has officially opened in Lipa City, Batangas.
The Global East Asia Medical Center (GEAMC), located along J.P. Laurel National Highway, was inaugurated on Wednesday, Sept. 30. It is described as the first green and pandemic-ready hospital serving the Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon region.
More Specialized Care for Southern Luzon
The hospital is expected to provide additional healthcare options for residents of Lipa City and nearby municipalities, particularly patients needing invasive or surgical treatment for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.
Its opening is also seen as a way to help ease the pressure on specialty hospitals in Metro Manila while adding more hospital beds in Batangas.
City Government Pledges Support
Lipa City Mayor Eric Africa, who served as guest of honor, said the city government would support GEAMC’s healthcare initiatives not only within Lipa but across the region.
Africa also said the local government would work with the hospital in referring patients who require medical procedures that are not available in public hospitals in the city.
Built Through Crisis, Ready for the Future
GEAMC President and CEO Dr. Darwin Vivas said the hospital’s mission continued despite major challenges, including the Taal Volcano eruption in January 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Construction officially began on July 1, 2020.
Vivas said the state-of-the-art facility was built with pandemic preparedness in mind, describing it as a protective shield for the community shaped by the very crises it was designed to withstand.
