Quezon City has been honored as a Hall of Fame awardee by the Department of Finance–Bureau of Local Government Finance (DOF-BLGF) for consistently ranking first in Locally Sourced Revenues (LSR) among all cities in the Philippines from 2020 to 2024. The recognition highlights the city’s sustained fiscal management under the leadership of Mayor Joy Belmonte.

“This is, of course, through the collective commitment of city officials and employees to promote digitalization, transparency, and good governance,” City Treasurer Edgar “Ed” Villanueva said on Tuesday.

Trust and Innovation Drive Fiscal Success

Mayor Belmonte expressed delight over the recognition, noting that the administration has relied on the full trust of its constituents. This approach, she said, has led to more efficient tax collection and revenue management without the need to raise tax rates.

Belmonte, Villanueva, and City Assessor Sherry Gonzalvo accepted multiple awards during DOF-BLGF’s 38th anniversary celebration last week, including Top 1 in Locally Sourced Revenues among Cities, Top 6 in LSR to Total Current Operating Income, and the Hall of Fame Award for Outstanding Revenue Performance.

“With our strong commitment to innovation and good governance, Quezon City will continue to set the standard for efficient local revenue generation in the Philippines,” Belmonte said.

Record Revenues in 2024

In 2024, the Quezon City government recorded P28.8 billion in locally sourced revenues, derived from real property taxes, business taxes, other taxes, and non-tax revenues. Villanueva described the milestone as “a dream come true for everyone in the City Treasurer’s Office, and a historic first for the Quezon City government to become a Hall of Famer.”

He emphasized that this achievement was made possible through the strong leadership of Mayor Belmonte and City Administrator Mike Alimurung, alongside the city’s digital transformation initiatives.

Quezon City’s achievement demonstrates how innovation, good governance, and public trust can drive sustainable fiscal performance, ensuring continued leadership in local revenue generation across the country.
