The House of Representatives on Monday voted to impeach Vice President Sara Duterte for the second time, following a decisive 255–26–9 vote that adopted Committee Report No. 261 and House Resolution No. 989, which contain the Articles of Impeachment.
The measure was supported by more than one-third of the chamber, meeting the constitutional threshold required to transmit the case to the Senate for trial proceedings.
Articles of Impeachment and Allegations
The approved Articles of Impeachment consolidate several allegations against Vice President Duterte, including the alleged misuse of confidential funds, unexplained wealth, bribery, graft and corruption, and reported threats against senior government officials.
Lawmakers who supported the resolution argued that the consolidated charges warranted a formal trial in the Senate to determine accountability based on evidence.
Transmission to the Senate
Following the House vote, the Articles of Impeachment will be formally transmitted to the Senate. The upper chamber will convene as an impeachment court, where trial proceedings will determine whether Vice President Duterte will be convicted or acquitted.
The Senate trial is expected to involve the presentation of evidence, witness testimony, and legal arguments from both the prosecution and the defense.
