The Philippine National Police (PNP) is intensifying security operations in residential communities and public areas as the country prepares for All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, commonly known as Undas, on Nov. 1 and 2.
PNP Boosts Police Presence in Communities
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. directed police commanders to strategically deploy personnel in residential areas and public spaces to prevent crimes and protect communities during the observance.
In a statement on Monday, Nartatez emphasized that increased police visibility is intended not only to deter criminal activity but also to ensure that families can commemorate their departed loved ones safely.
He also ordered local police units to strengthen coordination with barangay officials to improve neighborhood security and address potential threats.
“Police visibility is not just about putting more personnel on the streets. It is about preventing crime before it happens and ensuring that every family can observe Undas with peace of mind,” Nartatez said.
Public Urged to Secure Homes Before Leaving
Nartatez reminded the public that crime prevention requires cooperation between law enforcement and residents. He urged households to take precautionary measures to secure their homes before visiting cemeteries or traveling during the holiday period.
The PNP chief said basic safety practices could help prevent criminals from exploiting unattended homes and other vulnerable situations.
He also called on communities to work with police officers to maintain peace and order throughout the Undas observance.
NCRPO Deploys 26,000 Personnel for Undas
The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) will deploy 26,000 police personnel to maintain security at cemeteries, memorial parks and columbaria across Metro Manila during Undas 2026.
NCRPO officer-in-charge Brig. Gen. Christopher Abrahano announced the deployment on Monday.
Meanwhile, Manila North Cemetery will be open from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily from Oct. 29 to Nov. 2. Cleaning and painting of tombs will be allowed until Oct. 27, while interments will be permitted until Oct. 28.
Manila South Cemetery, on the other hand, will accommodate visitors from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2.
Authorities are stepping up preparations as cemeteries and memorial parks are expected to receive large numbers of visitors paying tribute to their departed loved ones.
