The streets of Bacolod once again burst with color, rhythm, and laughter as the city celebrated the 46th MassKara Festival, carrying the theme “One Smile, One City, One Heart.” What began in 1980 as a festival of hope, born from tragedy following the sinking of the MV Don Juan that claimed and displaced 78 Bacoleños, had grown into one of the Philippines’ most vibrant symbols of resilience. This year’s festivities brought back the beloved mix of street dancing, music, and artistry that has made Bacolod the “City of Smiles.”
Street and Arena Competitions Returned in Full Glory
After six years, the arena and street dance competition school category returned to the delight of thousands of spectators. The Paglaum Sports Complex roared to life as contingents opened with arena performances before flooding the city’s streets with elaborate costumes, infectious music, and the signature smiling masks. Each performance showcased Bacolod’s creativity and unity, proving that the MassKara spirit continued to thrive through generations.
