With the debut of the V-League Visayas, Cebu will host a significant new volleyball competition, bringing top-tier collegiate competition to the Queen City of the South.
Fans of volleyball in the Visayas will be able to see top-tier competition with some of the top collegiate teams thanks to this expansion.
Teams to watch
The University of San Carlos (USC) Lady Warriors, the current CESAFI winners, and the University of Southern Philippines Foundation Inc. (USPF) Lady Panthers, the runners-up from the previous season, are bannering the competition.
Both teams also competed in the V-League National Championships in Manila.
Prominent CESAFI teams from the University of Cebu (UC), University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R), University of the Philippines-Cebu (UP-Cebu), and Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) will join them.
“The Visayas has been a powerhouse in the volleyball national program. The dedication and hard work of our coaches and players in this region have been our foundation. It’s about time that we give them the platform to showcase the best talents,” said V-League Visayas commissioner Ken Ucang.
Long overdue
Richard Palou, president of Sports Vision Management Group Inc., stated that the V-League Visayas' debut is an important step in developing volleyball talent outside of Metro Manila.
“Many of the country’s top volleyball stars have come from Cebu, and it’s about time we help grow the game even further in the Visayas. With V-League Visayas, we are providing another platform to support the CESAFI tournaments and give players more opportunities to shine,” said Palou.
With its fiercely competitive squads and the potential to provide elite volleyball action, V-League Visayas is poised to revolutionize Cebu's thriving sports landscape.
