Bacha Coffee, the coffee house that started in Marrakech, Morocco in 1910, has opened its first two stores in the Philippines, at SM Mall of Asia in Pasay and Greenbelt 3 in Makati.
The brand traces its roots to the Dar el Bacha palace in Marrakech. It is known for a large catalog of 100 percent arabica coffees, more than 200 varieties from 35 coffee-growing regions. They are grouped into single origin, blends, flavored coffees and decaf.
No Espresso On The Menu
Bacha Coffee does not serve espresso drinks. It prepares coffee in what it describes as the traditional Moroccan way and serves it in gold gooseneck pots. Pastries come on the side. The Philippine menu has two croissants made for this market, a soy-marinated chicken and potato croissant and a chicken, beans and peanut croissant.
Each store has three parts: a small coffee bar, a boutique that sells beans and ground coffee by weight, and a takeaway counter. Takeaway coffee comes hot or iced, with vanilla Chantilly cream and a raw sugar stick. The MOA coffee bar seats up to 15 people, and the Greenbelt 3 bar seats up to eight.
The boutiques also sell gift items such as drip coffee bags in boxes of 12 or 25, bone china cups and hampers. They also carry rarer coffees such as a Yemeni Moka Matari and a Jamaican Blue Mountain.
The Look
Both stores copy the brand's signature interiors: black-and-white marble floors, geometric zellige tiles, carved cedar ceilings and polished brass.
Taha Bouqdib, president and CEO of V3 Gourmet, the company behind Bacha Coffee, said in the brand's announcement that coffee is "the star" of every store.
Prices and store hours were not included in the announcement. Check Bacha Coffee's official channels before you visit.
