SM Prime Holdings, Inc. backs the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) as they have officially broken ground on the Henry Sy Sr. Hall, a new facility designed to support leadership development and physical training for future military officers at Fort Del Pilar, Baguio City.

Ground Breaking

The groundbreaking ceremony took place on February 9 at the PMA grounds and was attended by key officials from the PMA, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and SM Prime. This event highlighted the importance of private-sector partnerships in strengthening institutions that shape future leaders.

SM Prime Executive Committee Chairman Hans T. Sy emphasized that “the future of the Philippines depends on strong leadership, and strong leadership is shaped by strong institutions.” He added that by building the hall, the company hopes to “provide a facility that supports the Academy’s continued evolution.”

The project is part of the PMA Growth Plan, which aims to expand the Cadet Corps and strengthen the Academy’s role as a future disaster response hub in Northern Luzon.

Mapping its Features

The hall will be a two-story structure anchored by a large multipurpose hall that can accommodate up to 2,500 people. The space will be used for training exercises, official events, and indoor sports activities. The project will also include office spaces and a 1.6-kilometer running track/athletic oval to support the physical training needs of cadets.

At its core, the facility is designed to help cadets build discipline, unity, and resilience, essential qualities for leadership under pressure.

Built for Baguio’s Climate and Long-Term Use

The Henry Sy Sr. Hall is designed by JSLA Architects, with a strong focus on typhoon resilience and durability. The layout takes into account Baguio City’s climate and the Academy’s need for infrastructure that can last for generations.

Construction is expected to be completed by 2028.
