For the benefit of the residents of Baseco Compound in Port Area, Manila, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has finished a flood control project valued at over PHP96 million.

The recently finished project, which cost PHP96.49 million in total, is the fourth phase of a slope protection project that would act as the inhabitants' first line of defense against flooding and river overflow.

Improving water quality

The slope protection was increased by 272.8 linear meters in the fourth phase.

The initiative, which ran from May 2024 to January 2025, also sought to enhance the local water quality and stop soil erosion.

Previously, the DPWH finished the three stages of the PHP285.34 million slope protection project in Baseco Compound.

Next projects

Three additional phases are in progress and will be financed by the General Appropriations Act of 2025.

Flood control structures are essential for reducing the impact of floods and safeguarding people and property.
