A police-led anti-narcotics operation in Quezon City turned deadly after a buy-bust sting escalated into a fierce gunfight, leaving three suspected drug dealers dead.
The Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) said the encounter occurred during a carefully planned operation in Barangay Socorro, Cubao. Authorities reported that the suspects “resisted” arrest and opened fire, prompting officers to return fire.
At the scene, investigators from the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) recovered spent bullet casings, small taped packets of suspected drugs, and a paper bag containing the buy-bust money. The Philippine News Agency noted that the seized items included PHP 68 million worth of shabu, along with firearms allegedly used by the suspects.
Fourth Suspect at Large
Quezon City Police District chief, Police Col. Randy Glenn Silvio, confirmed the operation. The PDEG added that one of the deceased suspects had been on their intelligence target list. A fourth suspect reportedly escaped, while a police officer and an informant were injured. Authorities are continuing to probe the suspects’ backgrounds, including prior criminal records, and are working to substantiate the evidence collected at the scene.
