CCTV footage in Barangay Daang Bakal, Mandaluyong captured two men outside a neighborhood store with a 71-year-old woman sleeping inside. The footage shows one man repeatedly checking the unlocked door while appearing to monitor the woman through the entrance. Moments later, he slipped in, grabbed an item, and hid it inside his shorts before quickly walking away. His companion stayed outside as a lookout.
The man returned shortly after and tried to take the store’s cash box. However, a passerby forced him to put it back and step outside briefly.
Suspect Hides Beside Sleeping Woman
The situation became more unsettling when the same suspect came back inside and lay low near the woman’s feet as she slept. When she woke up, he even attempted to touch her hand in a gesture resembling "pagmamano" before running off. The woman followed them outside but the men had already fled.
She later discovered that her cellphone, worth nearly P30,000, was missing. The cash box, which contained more than P10,000 in sales, was left behind. She recalled waking up confused and frightened, but grateful that she was not harmed.
Repeat Offender
Barangay officials and police were immediately notified, where almost immediately - authorities confirmed the men had been involved in previous theft cases in other parts of Mandaluyong, and that their names and addresses are already known to local officials.
Following this, Mandaluyong Police are currently conducting efforts to locate the two men still at large.
