For the first time, “Teeth,” the self-titled debut album of the 90s alt-rock band, is available on vinyl. It sold out within a day, and a second pressing is already out.

The Reissue

Backspacer Records produced the LP. It was remastered by mastering engineer Shinji Tanaka and issued in a strictly limited run of 500 copies on standard black vinyl. The sleeve carries newly commissioned, hand-painted artwork by visual artist Nix Puno. The artwork is a reimagining of the album’s original cover that pays homage to its design. One report adds that the gatefold jacket includes front and back artwork, previously unseen photos, articles, handwritten lyrics from drummer Mike Dizon’s collection, and liner notes by Diego Castillo.

The first pressing was announced in July and sold out in under a day, the band and press reports said, with all 500 copies sold. On Sept. 2, the band and Backspacer announced a second pressing after fans kept asking for another batch. Backspacer’s statement thanked Warner Music for help in making it happen. Dizon explained that securing the rights for the first run wasn’t easy, and that the quick sellout was a happy surprise and an immediate “sayang, dapat dinamihan.”

The second pressing listed on Backspacer’s store at P2,300, but the page now shows it as sold out. We could not confirm whether more copies are coming.

The Band

Teeth formed in 1993 and is made up of Glenn Jacinto (vocals), Jerome Velasco (guitars), Pedz Narvaja (bass), Mike Dizon (drums) and Dok Sergio (guitars). They are known for “Laklak,” “Prinsesa” and “Shooting Star.” The album earned Double Platinum certification from the Philippine Association of the Record Industry, selling more than 80,000 copies, per the announcements. The band went on hiatus in 2003, did reunion shows in 2014 and 2015, then returned to separate pursuits in 2016.

The Tour

The vinyl came alongside the “Year 33: TEETH The Reunion – Legacy Tour,” which started in Singapore on Aug. 30 and played Manila on Sept. 5. The band’s members have said they all grew up together as schoolmates. Jacinto, who is based in the US, said the music keeps finding new listeners. Dizon said the Manila show would have no click track, because “Teeth is about organic feel.” And this is what makes Teeth admirable – they continue to play with “human feel” and the ability to let the music breathe naturally to their audiences.
