Carlos Yulo Qualifies for Two World Championships Finals

Two-time Olympic champion Carlos Yulo will compete in two finals at the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Rotterdam, Netherlands this weekend. He is going for medals on floor exercise and vault.

How Yulo Qualified

Yulo placed second in floor qualification with 14.500 points, behind Arsenii Dukhno's 14.700. He opened with a two-and-a-half twist into a front double pike and closed with a double layout, landing with a small hop.

On vault, he qualified sixth with an average of 14.266. The judges downgraded his first vault, which drew 14.000. He scored 14.533 on his second. Jake Jarman and Artur Davtyan tied for the top vault score at 14.633.

Yulo's all-around total did not make the all-around final. His younger brother Karl Eldrew Yulo and teammate Juancho Miguel Besana did not qualify for any apparatus final.

When To Watch

According to the official schedule, the men's floor final is planned to start at 2 p.m. Rotterdam time on Saturday, Oct. 24, which is 8 p.m. in Manila. The men's vault final is planned to start at 2 p.m. Rotterdam time on Sunday, Oct. 25. Daylight saving time ends in Europe that morning, so it should start around 9 p.m. in Manila. Organizers note that finals can start a little later than planned.

What's At Stake

Yulo already has three world titles. He arrives fresh from the Asian Games in Japan, where he won gold on both floor and vault. He has said that next year's world championships matter more, because they serve as a qualifier for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. For Rotterdam, he said, he mainly wants to test his routines.
