Chicken Inasal, Sinigang, Adobo Recognized In Global Food List

Filipino cuisine once again gained international attention after chicken inasal, sinigang, and adobong manok were included in TasteAtlas’ April 2026 global food rankings, highlighting the growing recognition of the country’s signature dishes.

Chicken inasal ranked 40th among the world’s best dishes and was named the top chicken dish in Southeast Asia. Adobong manok placed 7th in the regional chicken category, while pork sinigang secured 52nd place in the global list.

What Sets These Dishes Apart

Chicken inasal, a grilled specialty from Western Visayas, is known for its smoky and tangy flavor. It is marinated in vinegar, garlic, ginger, lemongrass, and spices before being grilled and basted with annatto oil, giving it its distinct golden color and peppery taste.

Sinigang, particularly the pork version, remains a Filipino staple known for its sour and savory broth. Made by simmering pork cuts with tamarind and vegetables, it is widely appreciated for its comforting and refreshing taste. TasteAtlas also cited Max’s Restaurant as serving a notable version of the dish.

Adobong manok, one of the country’s most iconic dishes, continues to stand out for its bold balance of soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and spices—reflecting the familiar flavors of Filipino home cooking.

Recognition Seen as Cultural and Economic Boost

Tourism Secretary Dita Angara-Mathay welcomed the inclusion of Filipino dishes in the global rankings, calling it a strong affirmation of the country’s culinary identity.

She said Filipino cuisine plays an important role in cultural tourism, telling the story of the nation through its flavors and traditions.

She also noted that such recognition benefits not only chefs and restaurants but also farmers, food producers, and small businesses that support the wider food industry.
