EJ Obiena missed the podium for the second straight meeting after finishing fifth in the Wanda Diamond League's Shanghai leg.
On his second try, he cleared 5.72 meters, but on his three attempts, he was unable to clear 5.82 meters.
Rediscovering his form
To begin his campaign, he also passed 5.42 and 5.62 meters with ease.
Obiena had just finished seventh in the Xiamen leg, where he had to make two tries to cross 5.62 meters. After finishing the 5.92 meters, Duplantis won the same competition.
He was formerly among the top three players in the world, but in recent months, he suffered difficulties because of injuries and restricted competition access. These difficulties put his mental toughness and athletic form to the test.
Duplantis dominance
Swedish-American, Mondo Duplantis won first place with a meet record of 6.11 meters, barely exerting himself to triumph once more.
Menno Vloon of the Netherlands and Emmanouil Karalis, a pole vaulter from Greece, finished in second and third place, respectively, with respective heights of 6.01 and 5.82 meters.
