Filipino-Italian talents took center stage and made a powerful statement at World of Dance Italy 2025 in Rome, earning top awards and proving once again that Filipino dancers are a force on the global stage.
Youth Champions Dominate Junior Categories
In the Junior Division, young Filipino dancers based in Rome stood out with major wins. Andrew Magahis, 17, impressed judges and audiences alike to clinch 1st place in the Solo Junior Division. Twin brothers Keith and Christopher Portugal, known as the ICON TWINZ, earned Best Costume in the Duo Junior C Division. Keith further made his mark by winning 1st place in the Solo KPOP Division for the second consecutive year. Their cousin, Kyle Portugal, 24, wowed the crowd and was named Crowd Favorite in the KPOP Division.
“All the sleepless nights and sacrifices have been worth it,” said proud mom Jenny Portugal, reflecting on her family’s success.
Filipino-Led Teams Take the Spotlight
The Team Division also saw strong performances from Filipino-led groups. LD New Code, choreographed by Kevin Castillo, delivered a dynamic routine with style and precision. Hermes Crew, an all-Filipino team from Rome led by Allen Gunda and Jeff Creus, energized the stage with their cohesive performance. Meanwhile, Barkada, a group from Northern Italy, earned 3rd place with a creative twist on the traditional tinikling dance, choreographed by brothers Patrick and Gabrielle.
Global Recognition for Filipino Talent
Adding to the prestige, Filipino-American dancer and choreographer Shaun Evaristo served as one of the judges, lending international recognition to the event. Also featured were respected Filipino choreographers based in Italy — Mark Magsino, James Floreando, and Daniele Cipriano — who continue to play key roles in shaping the local and international dance scene.
As part of the global World of Dance series, the Italy edition became a celebration of culture, talent, and passion — and this year, Filipinos truly conquered the stage.
