Lea Salonga is breaking barriers once again—this time on one of the world’s most iconic sidewalks. The Tony Award-winning performer will become the first Filipino to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, making “herstory” and proudly representing the Philippines on a global stage.
Salonga shared her excitement on Instagram Stories after waking up to the news, reposting a Billboard article and writing, “Just now woke up to this bit of amazing news! To the Manila International Film [Festival], many thanks for nominating me to be part of the class of 2025-26!”

Joining Hollywood Greats
Lea’s star will be unveiled in 2026 alongside a powerhouse lineup that includes Miley Cyrus, Timothée Chalamet, Emily Blunt, and Rachel McAdams. While dates for the ceremonies haven’t been announced yet, honorees are given up to two years to schedule their formal unveiling.
Broadway Royalty Still Reigning
Even as she gains recognition in Hollywood, Salonga continues to thrive in the world of theater. She recently starred in Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends on Broadway, which earned her a 2025 Drama League Award nomination for Distinguished Performance—a testament to her continued excellence on stage.

A Family Affair in ‘Into the Woods’
This August, Salonga returns to the Philippine stage in Into the Woods, where she will take on the dark and complex role of The Witch. Adding a heartfelt twist to the production, her child, Nic Chien, will join her onstage as Jack—marking a special moment for the Salonga family and local theatergoers alike.
More Than a Star—A Symbol
Lea Salonga’s upcoming star is more than a career milestone—it’s a cultural victory. As the first Filipino to be honored on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, she paves the way for more Asian and Filipino artists to be seen, heard, and celebrated. Her star will shine not just for her achievements, but for an entire community that now sees itself reflected in the spotlight.
