Filipino dance crews once again proved they belong on the world stage after Team Philippines bagged five medals at the 2026 World Hip Hop Dance Championship in Phoenix, Arizona. Held as part of Hip Hop International (HHI)’s 25th anniversary celebration, the competition gathered around 3,000 dancers from 55 countries.

The Philippines fielded 10 teams across six divisions, with its biggest victories hailing from the Megacrew and Adult Divisions.
The competition concluded on August 2, with Femme MNL and The Crew securing the gold and silver medals, respectively, in the former, and HQ clinching the championship and Folkjumpers finishing third in the latter. Sayawatha Jr. also earned a bronze medal in the Junior division, completing the country’s five-medal haul.
Team Philippines has long been recognized as a powerhouse in the HHI World Championship, with the Philippine All-Stars first winning the Adult division back in 2006.

Meanwhile, three crews also celebrated podium finishes at the International Dance League (IDL) Seoul, held last July 25 to 27 in South Korea. VPeepz claimed first place in the Junior division, while UPeepz and BAWZ finished second and third, respectively, in the Adult division.
Earlier that month, the UP Streetdance Club competed at the World of Dance (WOD) Summit 2026 in Anaheim, California, under the Team division. They won second place at the Championship Round and third place at the World Finals, marking the country’s first podium finish since 2018.
Calls for Greater Support
Following these back-to-back victories, netizens and members of the dance community renewed calls for greater investment in competitive dance, pointing to Team Philippines’ consistent success on the world stage. Social media posts celebrating all of the crews urged increased institutional and government support, arguing that sustained funding and opportunities could help more Filipino dancers compete (and continue excelling) in international competitions.
