The Department of Education (DepEd) announced that there will be no classes in all public schools from October 27 to 30, 2025, to allow a “wellness break” for teachers and students. Education Secretary Sonny Angara said the move is meant to help school communities recover from the physical and emotional toll of recent typhoons, earthquakes, and flu outbreaks that have affected many regions of the country.
“Many of our teachers and learners come from areas hit by calamities or are down with the flu. We believe a short pause will allow everyone to rest and regain strength. We work better when we are well,” Angara said.
Adjustments to the INSET Schedule
In line with the wellness break, DepEd also rescheduled the midyear In-Service Training (INSET), originally set on the same dates. Schools and divisions that have already made payments or reservations for INSET venues and meals may either move the event to another date or repurpose the arrangements for other school needs.
DepEd clarified that schools opting to continue with their INSET during the break may do so voluntarily, and participating teachers will no longer be required to attend similar training sessions later in the school year. The department emphasized flexibility, allowing schools to coordinate with their division and regional offices in setting new INSET dates.
Classes Resume After the Holidays
DepEd reminded schools that INSET and other professional development programs should still be conducted within the remaining days of School Year 2025–2026.
Regular classes will resume on November 3, 2025, following the observance of All Saints’ Day (November 1) and All Souls’ Day (November 2).
The agency underscored that this wellness break is not just a pause in academic work but an important investment in the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of educators and learners—helping them return to school rested, ready, and resilient.
