ONE Meralco Foundation Brings Solar-Powered Learning to More Than 200 Beneficiaries

Students and teachers at Libis Elementary School in Antipolo City, Rizal, are gaining access to solar-powered learning facilities following the installation of a rooftop photovoltaic system through ONE Meralco Foundation (OMF). The initiative, implemented with B&M Global Services Manila, is expected to benefit over 200 students and teachers by supporting the school's electricity needs and providing power for computers and multimedia equipment.

Beyond the solar installation, the project also brings additional classroom resources through employee-led donations, expanding the support available to learners and educators.

Solar Energy Supports Classroom Learning

The rooftop system provides electricity for school facilities and instructional equipment, helping sustain classroom activities and access to learning tools. Meralco employees also contributed through the Meralco Employees Fund for Charity, Inc., donating a television set, printer, laptop, and speaker to strengthen the school's multimedia resources.

OMF President Jeffrey O. Tarayao said the collaboration reflects the value of partnerships in improving access to educational opportunities.

“OMF’s partnership with B&M Global Services Manila demonstrates how shared commitment can break down barriers, giving our young learners the tools they need to dream bigger and reach their full potential,” Tarayao said.

Libis Elementary School Principal Jinky Martinez also highlighted how the installation could help maintain learning activities during unfavorable weather while introducing students to renewable energy.

“With this solar panel, we can now ensure continuous learning even during rainy days, and we can teach our learners the value of renewable energy and environmental care,” Martinez said.

Expanding School Electrification Across the Philippines

The Antipolo project adds to OMF's broader School Electrification Program, which has brought electricity to 309 off-grid public schools nationwide. By extending solar-powered facilities and learning resources to schools, the initiative addresses practical barriers that can affect classroom instruction and access to educational technology.

ONE Meralco Foundation serves as the corporate foundation and social development arm of Manila Electric Co. (Meralco).

Reliable electricity remains essential to making digital learning tools useful in classrooms, particularly in communities where power access can be a challenge. Projects such as this can help schools maintain instruction, improve access to educational resources, and introduce students to renewable energy. The initiative helps create learning environments where Filipino students can better participate in an increasingly technology-driven world.
