When an artist includes the Philippines in their tour, they’d either flock to arenas in Metro Manila or stadiums up north. Recently, however, Cebu has been proving that world-class entertainment doesn’t just stop at the capital.
An Emerging Venue Down South
At the heart of this movement is the SM Seaside Cebu Arena, which has been giving both local and international acts a stage worthy of their grandest shows.
In fact, several artists already did it! Back in July, “Nation’s Girl Group," BINI, performed on the 11th for their “Signals” tour. They were followed by rock group IV OF SPADES, booking the arena for their “ANDALUCIA” tour on the 18th. And last September 5, OPM power couple KZ Tandingan and TJ Monterde serenaded the crowd during their "In Between" concert.
These shows proved that Cebu can draw crowds for large-scale concerts. Take note: the arena holds a 16,000-seat capacity (25,000 for special events). But more than that, they gave fans living outside Metro Manila greater convenience and accessibility. In other words, the arena is making it possible for Cebuanos and nearby audiences to experience live entertainment without having to travel to the metro.
More Shows to Come
And speaking of live entertainment, the arena’s lineup is stacked for the upcoming months!
This September, expect concerts from Hillsong Worship (September 18) and Yeng Constantino (September 20). Meanwhile, LANY will swing by this November 6 and 12 for their “SOFT” world tour. There's also the family-oriented “Disney on Ice Presents: Let’s Dance!" taking place this November 28-December 6.
The City’s Been Ready
These events are more than just individual concerts. Together, they’re helping establish Cebu’s reputation as an entertainment destination in its own right.
For artists and event organizers, the city offers access to a large audience in the Visayas and neighboring regions. For fans, it means more opportunities to experience the kinds of productions they once had to travel to Manila for.
Its growing concert scene also gives local audiences something to look forward to: a calendar where major acts can come to Cebu, perform on a world-class stage, and still feel close to home.
