Who makes the best Pancit Batil Patong in Tuguegarao?
That was the question as 12 past champions of the city’s Pancit Festival returned to compete in the “Battle of the Champions” on Sunday, August 9, braving the monsoon rains for a chance to claim the top spot.
The competition was part of the 2026 Pavvurulun Afi Festival, which brought together some of Tuguegarao’s most celebrated noodle makers for a flavorful showcase of the city’s signature dish.
A Taste of Tuguegarao
For Tuguegarao, Pancit Batil Patong is more than just a local favorite. It is a dish closely tied to the city’s culture, traditions, and history.
Mayor Maila Rosario Ting-Que said the locally made noodle dish has become a source of pride for the city, with its popularity spreading to other parts of the country.
Classic Batil Patong features handmade Tuguegarao miki noodles topped with poached eggs, sautéed carabao meat, crispy pork belly or karahay, spring rolls or shanghai, and locally grown vegetables.
The dish is served with a flavorful beef stock mixed with egg, along with a special sauce, chopped onions, and a vinegar dip.
12 Champions, One Winner
Twelve previous champions took part in this year’s showdown: Horno’s Panciteria, River Banks, Luis, Kuya Bik’s, Jomar’s, Rab, Mariane’s, Doy’s, Feliculas, Enang’s, Jhupit’s, and Jozette’s Panciteria.
After the cook-off, Kuya Bik’s Panciteria emerged as the winner, earning the title in this year’s “Battle of the Champions.”
The competition highlighted the skill and creativity of Tuguegarao’s local pancit makers while giving visitors a chance to taste different takes on one of the city’s most recognizable dishes.
Keeping the Tradition on the Table
Pancit Batil Patong continues to draw food lovers to Tuguegarao, where the dish remains a staple of the city’s culinary identity.
Retired Population Commission deputy executive director Mia Ventura was among those who sampled the winning eatery’s Batil Patong on Monday, August 10.
“The pancit batil patong has been unique at all times. I really enjoy eating this rice noodle variety,” Ventura said.
Through the annual festival, Tuguegarao continues to showcase Pancit Batil Patong not only as a crowd favorite but also as a taste of the city’s heritage, giving its local food tradition a place on the tourism map.
