The Philippines is gaining more recognition on the global hospitality scene as nine hotels now carry MICHELIN Keys, including two properties that made history as the country’s first Two MICHELIN Key recipients.
El Nido Resorts Lagen Island in Palawan and Raffles Makati were awarded Two MICHELIN Keys in the 2026 selection, marking them as destinations offering an “exceptional stay.”
For Lagen Island, the MICHELIN Guide highlighted its location in a forested cove surrounded by limestone cliffs, along with its use of Filipino materials and craftsmanship as well as its environmentally sound practices.
Raffles Makati, meanwhile, was elevated from One to Two MICHELIN Keys. The Guide cited its all-suite accommodations, private butler service, and intimate residential atmosphere.
Four more hotels join the selection
Four other Philippine properties received their first One MICHELIN Key: NUSTAR Hotel Cebu in Cebu City, El Nido Resorts Pangulasian Island in Palawan, Hotel Okura Manila at Newport World Resorts in Pasay City, and Manami Resort in Sipalay City, Negros Occidental.
Nay Palad Hideaway in Siargao, Fairmont Makati, and Amanpulo in Palawan also retained their One MICHELIN Key distinctions from last year.
A One MICHELIN Key recognizes a “very special stay,” while Two MICHELIN Keys are given to hotels offering an exceptional experience with distinctive character and service.
DOT sees boost for Philippine tourism
Tourism Secretary Dita Angara-Mathay welcomed the recognition, saying it reflects the continued growth of Philippine hospitality and the efforts of tourism stakeholders to create memorable experiences for travelers.
“Beyond the recognition itself, we see this as an opportunity to further position the Philippines as a destination where travelers can find exceptional stays, from our island resorts to our urban hotels, all anchored on the warmth of Filipino hospitality,” she said.
The MICHELIN Guide evaluates hotels based on architecture and design, service quality and consistency, personality and character, value for money, and their contribution to their surrounding setting.
The DOT said it will continue working with tourism partners to further raise the quality of Philippine hospitality and strengthen the country’s tourism brand.
