GSIS Launches 3-Month Loan Relief Amid Energy Crisis

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) is providing a three-month moratorium on loan payments for its members and pensioners, offering immediate financial relief as the Philippines grapples with rising costs linked to heightened tensions in the Middle East. The move comes amid concerns over fuel prices and the broader economic impact of the international energy situation.

How the Balik Ginhawa Program Works

Through the Balik Ginhawa Program, eligible members can receive refunds equivalent to three months of loan payments, covering the period from December 2025 to February 2026. The refund will be directly credited to members’ accounts, allowing them to use the funds immediately for household expenses, bills, or other financial needs.

GSIS emphasized that there will be no additional interest or penalties during the moratorium. Participation is voluntary, giving members the flexibility to decide whether to avail themselves of the program or continue with regular loan payments. This initiative is designed to help pensioners and employees manage cash flow pressures during a period of uncertainty.

Part of Broader Government Support

The loan relief follows President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s declaration of a state of national energy emergency. Alongside the moratorium, the government ordered the implementation of the Unified Package for Livelihoods, Industry, Food, and Transport (UPLIFT) to provide support for sectors affected by rising energy costs and supply disruptions.

The GSIS relief program reflects the administration’s efforts to protect vulnerable groups, particularly public sector workers and retirees, and to ensure that families have access to financial resources during this challenging period.
