PH Observes Veterans Week 2026 With Tribute And Push For Better Healthcare

The Philippines will celebrate Philippine Veterans Week from April 6 to 13, highlighting the courage and dedication of Filipino veterans who will have safeguarded the nation’s freedom. Adjusted this year to accommodate the calendar, the week will begin with meaningful ceremonies at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, a sacred place where the country’s heroes are laid to rest.

The centerpiece, Araw ng Kagitingan on April 9, will commemorate the fall of Bataan in 1942. At the Mount Samat National Shrine, the nation will pay tribute to the bravery and resilience of those who fought selflessly for freedom. The observance will serve as a reminder of the legacy of courage that will continue to inspire Filipinos.

Building a Brighter Future for Veterans

Beyond remembrance, Veterans Week will also be a moment to look forward and improve the lives of those who have served. Currently, there’s only one dedicated facility, the Veterans Memorial Medical Center, serving veterans nationwide.

Recognizing the need for more accessible care, Senator Mark Villar will push for Senate Bill No. 2544, or the Veterans Hospital Act of 2024, which will establish hospitals in Visayas and Mindanao. These facilities will bring essential healthcare closer to veterans living outside Metro Manila, ensuring their sacrifices are met with the care they will deserve.

“Veterans gave their all to protect our freedom. It will be our turn to support them with quality healthcare and services, no matter where they live,” Villar said.

Comprehensive Care and Lasting Impact

The proposed hospitals will provide full medical, surgical, psychiatric, and rehabilitative care, including long-term treatment for service-related conditions. They will also serve as research centers to advance veterans’ healthcare and extend support to their families.

As the nation observes Veterans Week 2026, it will not only be a time to honor bravery but also to celebrate hope--hope that our veterans will receive the recognition, care, and support they have long earned. Their heroism will continue to inspire, and the future will promise stronger, more accessible care for every Filipino veteran.
