Mathematics MVP
Pornillos earned three gold medals and three Gold Cup trophies, solidifying his reputation as one of the brightest young minds in the global math arena. His consistency across the competition’s remote rounds—Autumn, Winter, and Spring—earned him a 100% Competition Scholarship from the Asian MathSci League Inc. (AMSLI), which fully covered his expenses to join the finals in Bulgaria.
Representing the country as part of Team Philippines, along with three other student delegates, coaches, and parents, Pornillos competed under the leadership of AMSLI President Rechilda Villame and Education Program Supervisor in Mathematics, Lynette Rue.
What set Pornillos apart was not only his accuracy but also his speed. In one round, he completed a 40-minute test in just 11 minutes, finishing with a perfect score—a rare achievement that stunned both fellow competitors and judges.
The Lebron James of Mathematics
This display of mathematical brilliance has earned him the nickname “Lebron James of Mathematics”—a nod not only to his name but to his dominance in the subject, much like his namesake on the basketball court.
Pornillos is a proud member of the AMEP program at AMSLI General Trias Center, where he has consistently showcased academic excellence. His victory adds to the Philippines’ growing recognition in international mathematics competitions and serves as an inspiration for young learners nationwide.
With his triple gold triumph, LeBron James proves that Filipino students can excel on the world stage—not just in sports or the arts, but in the exacting world of mathematics.
