The Philippines earned international recognition as FIVB President Fabio Azevedo lauded the country’s hosting of the 2025 Volleyball Men’s World Championship. During his visit to Manila, Azevedo met with the Local Organizing Committee and even rode the LRT-2 train decorated with tournament visuals, highlighting the festive atmosphere surrounding the event.
Azevedo underscored that the Philippines’ vibrant culture and the enthusiasm of local fans have elevated the tournament experience. He emphasized how the country’s warm hospitality has made visiting athletes feel at home throughout the competition.
“Filipinos love our sport. They are so warmly welcoming to everyone who comes to the country,” Azevedo said. “I can assure you that every athlete and their entourage is here to perform at the world championships, and they are extremely happy to be here.”

Passionate Fans and Growing Excitement
The World Championship is now in its Round of 16, with powerhouse teams already advancing. Defending champion Italy and world number one Poland have booked their spots in the quarterfinals, where they will meet Belgium and Turkey, respectively.
Philippine National Volleyball Federation and Asian Volleyball Confederation President Ramon “Tats” Suzara encouraged fans to sustain their support as the competition enters its crucial stages. He acknowledged that while expectations were high for the country’s Alas men’s squad, the tournament itself is an opportunity for Filipinos to witness world-class volleyball.
“I think, as organizers, we’re doing well. The expectations have been high, especially with our Alas men’s team. We’re on the right track, and I hope more fans will come, even without the Alas team, for the Round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals,” Suzara said.
The Round of 16 continues on September 22 and 23, followed by the quarterfinals on the 24th and 25th. The semifinals and championship match will cap off the tournament on September 27 and 28 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Future of PH Volleyball Hosting
The recognition from FIVB leadership strengthens the Philippines’ reputation as a capable host for global sporting events. Azevedo’s remarks, paired with the strong turnout of Filipino fans, point to the country’s growing potential as a volleyball hub in Asia.
With successful hosting at this scale, the Philippines not only boosts its international profile but also inspires greater investment and support for local volleyball development in the years ahead.
