Team Philippines’ medal count at the 20th Asian Games keeps growing.
The latest addition comes from the country’s esports squad. Sibol’s Honor of Kings team won bronze on Monday, Sept. 28, at Aichi Sky Expo Hall D in Japan, bringing the Philippines’ tally to 13 medals: two golds, two silvers, and nine bronzes, GMA News reported.
Sibol Falls to China but Takes Bronze
The Filipinos lost 0-2 to powerhouse China in the semifinals but still took home a medal, GMA News reported.
China won the first Honor of Kings gold at the Asian Games in Hangzhou in 2023 and now plays Malaysia in the final to defend its title, Philstar reported.
The squad finished second in Group B and beat South Korea in the quarterfinals, according to GMA News.
It was Sibol’s second medal of these Games; the Pokémon UNITE team won bronze the day before.
GMA News reported that the Honor of Kings roster is built around the core of the now-defunct Blacklist International.
Head coach Gerald Gelacio leads the team, which includes brothers Golden and Dragon Dajao.
