The Philippines has been officially selected to host the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship 2029, marking the first time the country will stage the prestigious global tournament. The announcement was made by FIVB President Fabio Azevedo and volleyball icon Leila Barros ahead of the final match of the Men’s World Championship 2025 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The decision cements the Philippines’ reputation as an emerging hub for international volleyball. With the country already praised for its successful hosting of the Men’s Championship this year, the 2029 event is expected to build on that momentum and leave a lasting impact on the sport’s growth in the region.

A Milestone for Philippine Volleyball

In his remarks, FIVB President Fabio Azevedo highlighted the significance of the win for the country’s sporting landscape.

“Hosting the Volleyball Women’s World Championship 2029 in the Philippines is an opportunity to again showcase not only the very best of volleyball but also the positive impact our sport hason society,” Azevedo emphasized.

Volleyball World CEO Ugo Valensi echoed this sentiment, noting the country’s proven ability to deliver.

“The 2029 Women’s World Championships in the Philippines will be a true celebration of everything that makes volleyball unique. Building on the success of the Men’s World Championship here in 2025, we know the Philippines offers the perfect stage to inspire the next generation and connect communities across the country and the region,” Valensi said.

A Roadmap for Long-Term Growth

The 2029 championship will serve as the crown jewel in a broader seven-year volleyball development program spearheaded by the Philippine Sports Commission. The initiative includes hosting 20 international tournaments between 2026 and 2032, all aimed at boosting local talent, strengthening tourism, and positioning the country as a global volleyball destination.

PSC Chairman Patrick Gregorio stressed the tournament’s broader impact beyond the court.

“To host the Volleyball Women’s World Championship 2029 is a great gift for volleyball-loving Filipinos across the nation. This long-term partnership with the FIVB and Volleyball World will not only allow our country to be at the heart of volleyball’s global growth; it will set a historic blueprint for Philippine sports development overall,” Gregorio affirmed.

Meanwhile, FIVB Executive Vice President and AVC President Ramon Suzara expressed confidence that the Philippines is ready to rise to the occasion once more.

“We are determined to carry forward the momentum of the World Championship 2025 and channel it into something lasting for our athletes, our fans and our nation,” Suzara said.

With the 2029 Women’s World Championship on the horizon, the Philippines is poised to solidify its place on volleyball’s global stage—uniting athletes, fans, and communities in what promises to be a landmark sporting event.
