PH Earns Michelin Guide Spotlight As A Top Foodie Destination For 2026

The Philippines has secured a spot on the Michelin Guide’s list of the world’s “most exciting foodie destinations” for 2026, joining 15 other countries celebrated for their culinary appeal. The guide highlighted that 2026 is the ideal time to explore the country’s gastronomic scene, noting that “Filipino food claims its global moment in Manila and Cebu.”

This recognition reflects the growing international interest in Filipino cuisine, which combines bold flavors, unique ingredients, and innovative techniques.

Young Chefs Leading Culinary Innovation

The Michelin Guide praised a new generation of Filipino chefs who are “developing independent styles” and redefining the country’s food culture. These culinary talents are blending traditional Filipino techniques with international methods, creating dishes that are both familiar and inventive.

Classic Filipino dishes such as sisig, sinigang, inasal, and adobo were highlighted as must-tries. According to the guide, these dishes “showcase a balance of sweet, salty, and acidic flavors through the skilled use of regional fruits, spices, and cooking techniques like marinating and grilling.” Inspectors also noted the year-round availability of fresh local produce, calling it “the real cornerstone of Filipino cuisine.”

Michelin Guide’s Inaugural Philippines List

The Michelin Guide officially arrived in the Philippines in October 2025, unveiling its first set of local recommendations. A total of 108 establishments made the inaugural 2026 list: 74 Michelin Selected restaurants, 25 Bib Gourmand spots, eight awarded One Michelin Star, and one with Two Michelin Stars.

Alongside the Philippines, other Asian destinations recognized include Cappadocia in Türkiye and Jiangsu Province in China. With its rich culinary heritage and a new wave of creative chefs, the Philippines is fast becoming a must-visit destination for food lovers seeking authentic flavors and innovative dining experiences.
