Roblox has rolled out Family Zone, a new interactive experience that helps parents and caregivers better understand the gaming platform while learning how to keep their children safe online.
Available since July 15, the feature was created with education partner MindTrust to encourage families to explore Roblox together. Instead of simply reading safety guides, parents can experience the platform firsthand and become more familiar with the tools designed to support safer gameplay.
Hands-On Introduction to Roblox
Family Zone serves as a guided walkthrough for adults who may be unfamiliar with Roblox. Through a series of interactive activities, parents learn how to navigate the virtual world, move their avatars, and understand the basics of gameplay.
The experience is designed as a shared activity, with children leading parents through their first Roblox session. The company said this approach helps families learn together while opening conversations about responsible online behavior.
Roblox noted that although many parents are comfortable with online games, they often lack experience using Roblox itself, making it harder to maximize the platform's built-in safety settings.
Exploring Parental Controls
As parents progress through Family Zone, they are introduced to Roblox's parental control features and how they can be used to manage their child's experience.
The tutorial explains how to set screen-time limits, monitor spending, choose who children can communicate with, and control which games they can access. Participants who finish the lessons can also earn exclusive virtual items for their avatars.
In addition to Roblox-specific features, the experience includes lessons that promote digital literacy and encourage families to practice safe online habits across different platforms.
Expanding Online Safety Education
Roblox said Family Zone is part of its broader effort to provide more educational resources for families. The company is working with child safety experts and nonprofit organizations to develop new learning modules on topics such as scam awareness, cyberbullying, and recognizing harmful online behavior.
Among its partners are Koko, Playerthree, and researchers from the Lab for Scalable Mental Health at Northwestern University, who are creating an interactive game that teaches children and teenagers how to build resilience against bullying.
Roblox said more educational content and family-focused activities will be added to Family Zone as the initiative continues to grow.
